What is wealth? It’s not money, which is its medium. Wealth is to sit with a cup of coffee; to capture thoughts that might matter to others; to have the freedom from the oppression of the nine to five routine to work on a personal masterpiece that may materially improve someone else’s life; and to gaze without focus at happy children outside the window, while you can remember a childhood forgotten without a trace in war and revolution. — Amin Arianna
But even if you want some time off, how do you do it in an office which thinks it owns your 24 hours in return for the salary they pay?
Welcome, the Gig Economy.
If you are thinking that gig economy is some difficult economic term like GDP or PPP, relax!
Any article about the freelance lifestyle is incomplete without talking about the idea of freedom and time to do the things that you want to do.
Why the gig economy suddenly makes so much sense?
Do you remember the elective you wanted to choose in college — the one that got shot down because it wasn’t a popular choice among other students? Gig economy is for people who get restless with the comfortable. Who are always on the lookout for more. It is for people who are tired of spending time at the office just to clock 8 hours even after completing their task.
Now if you are thinking about ditching your full-time job for the life of a freelancer/part-timer it is worth considering the pros and cons. Though it’s a great path, like everything else, it has its own set of challenges.
Why choose the freelance lifestyle?
Freedom — be your own boss.
Can concentrate on getting the job well done and not spend a lot of time just for the sake of it.
